Makoto Tanijiri - House in Saijo
Tanijiri is a young Japanese architect who founded Suppose Design Office. The form is really beautiful and the strinking black exterior is a great juxtaposition against the typical suburban houses. The inside is equally amazing with its light filled rooms and beautiful decor. The exterior “mounds” around the property are actually the excavated dirt reshaped into hills which have...

Robert Gober
“I always try to get people to focus less, or at least not first, on finding “meaning” or a “theme” in the work, but to focus on what it is exactly. What is it physically made of and how is it made. A lot of times metaphors are almost embedded in the medium.”

Sunn O))) & Richard Serra
Sunn O))) take Richard Serra’s massive, textured, and bleak paintings and turn it into album art for their new album, Monoliths & Dimensions. It matches their sound and image so perfectly I wonder why they didn’t do it sooner. The album also sounds like it is going to be impressive.

Flickr
I recently purchased a Nikon D40 and started taking some photos. I don’t consider myself a photographer; rather, I just wanted a way to document my life, family, and friends in a nice way. Anyway, you can find my pictures on the Flickr account, here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ochre_/

Mid Century Classics in Contemporary Kids Shows
(Nick’s iCarly show featuring an Eames wire chair in the back) I love when I spot some classic furniture pieces on the TV but it is the most fun when I can find them in kids shows. The set designers must have chucked them in there not because the kids will be able to appreciate their classic aesthetic but rather enjoy their playful appearance. And interestingly enough, a lot of what I...

The Dress Collection by Victoria Beckham Ad
I love when fashion decides to not take itself so seriously. With this launch ad for Victoria Beckham’s new clothing line, The Dress Collection, models run around a beautiful mansion playing a game of hide and seek in some beautiful dresses. The videography is playful and so is the music. Personally I love the juxtaposition of the elegant and regal mansion to the activities. As with...

Yves Saint Laurent - L'Homme
I purchased this over the weekend and I love it. For a brief stint in high school I would purchase a Lacoste deodorant which smells like you would expect: something a bit more sporty and sophisticated. But for the most part I’ve stuck with the average drug store stuff. Well I’ve been growing a bit tired of that and as my budget as begun to allow for a few more luxuries such as this,...

Hermes Blanket
Hermes blanket made of cashmere and wool. Made in numerous colors, you could find one to fit any decor, but not any budget. Priced around $600 it certainly isn’t for everyone (myself included.. for now) but I’ll stay hopeful for my own black and grey one.

Current Office
For now, here is my current home office/art area. Things obviously will be changing soon when I move in a month. I sort of wanted to just document the final incarnation of my designing before I took it all apart to move.

Apartment
I’ve been very, very lucky to find a new apartment for myself to start renting come February 1st in the Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia. It is a studio in a brownstone with 14ft ceilings, a very good amount of floor space (about 500sqf) and a kind landlord. I will be doing a lot of renovations such as painting the outdated cabinets, tiling the back splash which is now a faux...

Refurbished Haight-Ashbury House
Husband and wife, Casper and Lexie Mork-Ulnes, made a complete renovation of their Victorian Haight-Ashbury house totaling almost $200,000. They kept some of the original architectural details of the house while also converting the majority of it into a modern masterpiece. It took them 5 years but I think they’ve created an incredibly mixture of new and old. Photos and stories courtesy...

Hi
My name is Mike and I’m a graphic design student in Philadelphia. I run another website called Eat Tapes which is currently under construction but will be back up shortly. I’m also in the process of developing an eBay store with my girlfriend called Skin & Bones which will focus on selling vintage and modern hard-to-find clothes that we gather from around the area. This blog will...
